Biman Bora, a dreaded criminal, an accused in several cases including the sensational 2013 Gunjan Sharma kidnapping case, was injured in ‘retaliatory’ police firing.
The incident has been reported from Kanjikhowa in Assam’s Chabua during the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to police, Bora is accused in several cases of robbery kidnapping, car lifting across upper Assam.
Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra said, “We received an information regarding the presence of Biman Bora. When our police team went to nab him, he fired at the policemen and in retaliation the police fired in his leg. He has been admitted at Assam Medical College and Hospital for treatment.”

The Dibrugarh SP added: “The police have recovered a pistol and live ammunition from his possession.”
On December 4, 2013, 14-year-old Gunjan Sharma, daughter of a businessman and a class 8 student then at the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Nazira in Sivasagar district was abducted by Biman Bora along with 19 other children using a school van.
Gunjan had pleaded the gunman to take her hostage and let the other children go.
The criminal, who had kidnapped the children to facilitate his escape to Nagaland, allowed the other children to leave and took Gunjan hostage.

Next morning, Gunjan was rescued from Bihubhor near the Assam-Nagaland border, where Biman Bora had freed her.
In recognition of her bravery, Gunjan was conferred the first state bravery award by the then Tarun Gogoi-led government in 2014.
