Digboi: A seventh-grade student at Delhi Public School (DPS) Digboi in Assam’s Tinsukia district is recovering in the hospital after sustaining injuries from a fall on Saturday morning.
The student, who fell from the second floor around 8:30 AM, was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to a tea garden hospital at Chabua in Dibrugarh district for further treatment.
Details regarding the cause of the fall are unclear at this time.
A guardian, who requested anonymity, expressed concern about a possible altercation between the student and a classmate on May 7.
The guardian questioned the school’s handling of the situation, stating that they were not informed about the incident or any disciplinary actions taken.
“Disagreements and misunderstandings are common among students. The crucial factor is how effectively teachers intervene and provide counselling,” the guardian said.
He alleged that instead of addressing the situation constructively, the school administration may have contributed to the student’s emotional distress.
“School officials should not conceal information or make judgments without involving parents. We were completely unaware of the May 7 incident,” another parent said.
The parents have requested CCTV footage from the school and demanded an investigation by the Assam Oil Division (AOD) managed school management committee.
A school teacher reportedly apologized for the incident over the phone.
The incident has raised questions about the school’s internal administration and teacher conduct. Some guardians expressed concern that the teachers may have exacerbated the situation.
“Instead of fostering reconciliation, the teachers allegedly took it upon themselves to mete out punishment,” said an AOD official, who is also a guardian.
The AOD sources confirmed that the school’s local management committee, led by the Executive Director of Assam Oil Division, has ordered an inquiry.
