Union DoNER minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Wednesday inaugurated a bamboo treatment plant at North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) in Byrnihat near Guwahati.

The plant is based on vacuum-pressure-impregnation technique and is funded by the National Bamboo Mission (NBM) and North Eastern Council (NEC).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by North Eastern Council member Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, NECBDC managing director Dr Shailendra Chaudhari, NEC advisor (BIT) R Lalrodingi.

Union DoNER minister Singh highly applauded the role played by the NEC, NECBDC and Dr Chaudhari of NECBDC.

This is an initiative of the central government to make India self-reliant in bamboo industry and create employment in this sector.

VACUUM PRESSURE IMPREGNATION TREATMENT PLANT

It is hoped the project will encourage local youths to set up treatment plants in Northeast and in turn farmers shall be provided with good market for their bamboo produced in villages.

For bamboo-entrepreneurs, it will fetch 200% profit margin.

Introduction of this technology in Assam is expected to   benefit more than 500 artisans, entrepreneurs, farmers, field functionaries, students, architects, scientists and professionals every year.
