On Tuesday, an on-duty doctor attached to Fultali Model Hospital under Lanka Police Station in central Assam’s Hojai district was allegedly brutally assaulted by a group of men following the death of a COVID-19 patient at the hospital.
Sources said the relatives of the deceased patient mercilessly beat up the doctor, Seuj Kumar Senapati, and also beat up some of the nurses of the hospital on duty at the time.
In a video of the incident that went viral in the social media, a group of people can be seen charging at the doctor with slippers and sticks in front of the hospital building.
According to sources, Giyasuddin, a COVID-19 patient from Udali area, died at the hospital around 10 am on Tuesday.
Some people, including relatives of the patient, immediately became enraged at the sudden death of the patient and attacked the doctor as well as other staffers of the hospital.
Watch just 30 seconds of this.
Is this ok? Is there any justification for such violence?
We understand that your family must be in grief & you’re in pain, but at what point does that translate to you assaulting the doctor who tried everything to save your loved one? pic.twitter.com/ui46AOAnyM
