Dibrugarh: A youth from Chaulkhowa in Assam was brutally beaten by a group of miscreants after he refused to participate in cattle theft.

The victim has been identified as Irfan Ali, who was attacked by the group.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at Chaulkhowa Gharbondi Chuk in Dibrugarh.

The victimโ€™s family has filed an FIR at the Gabhrupathar police outpost against Amul Ali, Mainul Ali, Suraf Ali, Yusuf Ali, Salma Begum, Sajina Begum, Azim Ali, and Riku Ali.

โ€œThe reason behind the attack is that they wanted my son to be involved in cattle theft, which he refused. As an act of revenge, they assaulted him, causing injuries,โ€ Pinky Khatun, mother of Irfan Ali, stated in the FIR.

According to locals, the cattle thieves allegedly force youths of the area to participate in cattle lifting. When the youths refuse and choose to live a dignified life, the gang allegedly assaults them and uses abusive language.

Residents alleged that the notorious gang of cattle thieves has created an unhealthy atmosphere in the area.

โ€œThey forced us to take part in cattle lifting, but we do not want to engage in illegal activities. We want to live a decent life, but these people do not respect that,โ€ the victim said.

He added, โ€œThey have created a lawless situation here. When youths pass through the roads, they stop them and assault them without any reason.โ€

โ€œDespite complaints to the police, no action has been taken against them. We demand justice,โ€ the victim said.

The victimโ€™s family has urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene in the matter and instruct the police to take immediate action against the culprits.

Sources alleged that many people in the Chaulkhowa area are involved in cattle theft and that cattle are lifted from nearby villages during the night.

Earlier, police had conducted raids in the area and arrested several people associated with illegal cattle lifting.
