The Dhubri police has launched a WhatsApp police helpline number in an attempt to establish better communication with the public and check rising crimes.

The helpline is a part of ‘Hello Police’, a round-the-clock public information system that was launched by Dhubri superintendent of police Abhijit Gaurav ‘recently.

This system would enable the general public, especially the youth, to alert the police on any illegal and anti-social activity by calling or sending WhatsApp messages to  the number ‘6026900390’.

Public could also send photos, audio and video clippings, using WhatsApp.

The district police administration has already received responses from the public after launching this helpline.

Residents who usually face problems or require assistance from the police can contact in the WhatsApp number, which will remain operational round the clock.

Abhijit Gaurav said that a police team would monitor all information to be received on the police helpline.

He said in case of information relating to any crime or illegal activities like drug peddling, etc the identity of the informer would be kept a secret.

“This helpline would work as a facilitator to get police assistance speedily and would keep a close vigil on illegal activities in the district,” Gaurav said.

“Those who alert the police or lodge complaints need not fear any kind of harassment as they need not reveal their names and their contact numbers would be kept confidential,” the SP said.

While sharing the number through his social platform, Dhubri police wrote,” Save the Number -600269000390; this is Dhubri Police Whatsapp Number to report any information related to drugs and other illegal activities. We assure that your identity will be kept secret and immediate action will be taken”.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri police has so far arrested more than 30 drug peddlers during the raids conducted in 20 different locations across the district to root out the drug  menace.

Police have also seized huge consignments of contraband items likes’ brown sugar, tablets, cough syrups and ganja etc from the possession of the arrested peddlers.

Two gambling dens have also been destroyed and six gamblers arrested during a drive against the illicit liquor across the district.

Over 10000 liters of illicit liquor was also destroyed during the drive.
