Dhubri Police on Sunday arrested one drug peddler and recovered a huge quantity of contraband tablets from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Dhubri Police conducted an operation at Iron Jungla area located on the outskirts of Dhubri town and recovered more than 25,000 Pyeevon Spas contraband tablets from the possession of the alleged drug peddler.

The accused drug peddler has been identified as Moghol Hussain, a resident of New Ghat area under the Dhubri Sadar police station.

Police sources said the accused has been selling such addictive substances to teenagers and other groups in the district for the last couple of months.

The said contraband tablets were being carried inside a courier delivery bag, said police.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhubri Sadar police station, Partha Pratim Gogoi said, “A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and further investigation is underway.”

On Saturday, two inter-state drug peddlers were arrested from the Agomani area during a Naka Checkpoint on National Highway 17.

The duo accused was identified as Rofiqul Miya and Amir Hussain and both are the residents of neighbouring Coochbehar district of West Bengal.

Police seized a total of 4,874 Codeine Phospate cough syrup bottles from the possession of the duo, the accused said.
