The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau of Assam Police on Monday arrested a divisional forest officer (DFO) and assistant conservator of forests (ACF) in Lakhimpur for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25 thousand from an owner of a tractor .
Yadav Chandra Nath, DFO, Lakhimpur forest division and Zesim Ahmed, ACF, were caught red handed by vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths while accepting the bribe from the tractor owner.
DFO Nath and ACF Ahmed took the bribe from the complainant for releasing a tractor, which was seized by forest officials despite having valid documents, said a vigilance official.
Vigilance sleuths sized Rs 50 thousand from the possession of the two senior forest officials.
The vigilance officer said DFO Nath and AFC Ahmed demanded Rs 1, 85 000 from the complainant to hand over his seized tractor.
They are being interrogated at Lakhimpur divisional forest officer (DFO) office.
