The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Guwahati on Saturday awarded degrees to a total of 140 students during its 4th Convocation.

Of the 140 students, 135 are PG students and 5 Ph.D. students from the 2018-20 and 2019-21 batches.

The 4th Convocation of NIPER, Guwahati was celebrated virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi attended the programme as a chief guest.

While addressing the students, Governor Mukhi said, “Knowledge of systems from different ethnic origins would bring about the interchange of knowledge and increase the understanding of different systems, and this can ultimately contribute to integration and advancement of herbal drug research when accompanied by collaborative work of researchers from different countries.”

“These futuristic goals can be accomplished when one gains insights about the systems, the principles and histories, and works upon the strengthening aspects common between the various traditional systems of medicine,” Mukhi said.

He further congratulated the passing out students for the excellent education they received from a premier institute such as NIPER Guwahati and urged them to utilize their knowledge and wisdom towards the development of the nation and humankind.

In her speech, S. Aparna, Secretary, Dept. of Pharmaceuticals, said, “You are indeed great fortunate. You are passing out of such a remarkable institution at a time when the world is looking at India as a land of unique opportunities.”

“Here one can become Heads of State, business leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, investors by the virtue of confidence in the abilities of the young people of India,” she said.

“Today, India is inspiring to become a five trillion-dollar economy. Your innovation, aspiration and application of technology will fuel this dream. It became the bedrock of India’s big leap into the most competitive economy,” said Aparna.

Dr. S. Chandrasekhar, Director, CSIR-IICT, and Chairman of Board of Governors of NIPER Guwahati congratulated the students for their achievements and extended best wishes for their future.

Earlier in his Director’s Note, Dr. USN Murty, Director NIPER Guwahati, elaborated upon the highlights of NIPER Guwahati to the attending guests and audience.

He mentioned the various educational and research centers that have been established at NIPER Guwahati with sponsorships from various central ministries over the last couple of years.

He also highlighted the efforts of its faculty and staff as well as various stakeholders which contributed directly to NIPER Guwahati achieving 11th NIRF-2020 Ranking under Pharmacy category as declared by the Union Ministry of Education
