Darrang Police on Tuesday arrested a ‘most wanted’ criminal along with a hand-made pistol.

The criminal, identified as Akbar Ali, is allegedly involved in illegal transportation of weapons.

“A resident of No 2 Dhanshrikash village, Akbar Ali has been nabbed with a hand-made pistol,” police sources said.

“We were on the lookout for him since long and finally, we were able to nab him,” police sources added.

Police said they expect recovery of more illegal firearms from the possession of the criminal.

“A case has been registered in Dhula police station and further investigation is on ,” police said.

Meanwhile, Darrang Police continues to fight against illegal drugs and other illegal activities in the district.

On June 11, the district police apprehended a drug peddler, identified as Moinul Ali, son of late Mokshed Ali of Singimari police station in Hajo under Kamrup district.

He fled away from the spot on June 9, 2021 after keeping the vehicle abandoned with suspected drugs.

On June 10, the police personnel of Kharupetia police station under Darrang district worked smartly against two smart gangs, who were involved in making fake currency notes and break down locks of people.

On June 9, the Darrang Police carried out an operation against illegal drugs at Garukhuti under Sipajhar police station. The police recovered 65 vials filled with suspected drugs. But the culprits managed to flee abandoning the vehicle from the spot, the police said.
