Assam: Offline classes at Darrang JNV suspended, principal tests COVID positive

Offline classes at the Darrang Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya in Assam has been suspended after principal of the school tested positive for COVID-19. 

Offline classes at the school will remain suspended from Monday (January 17) onwards, as per an order from deputy commissioner of Darrang district of Assam.

Darrang DC and chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC) of the JNV – Pranab Kumar Sarmah has directed suspension of the offline classes of the only residential school in the district under the HRD Ministry. 

This decision was taken to check the spread of COVID-19 among students and staff of the school after the principal of the institution – PB Sobhanavalli (59) tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. 

The principal earlier had arrived at the school on January 9 from her home state Kerala.

However, without undergoing quarantine, the principal reportedly engaged herself in official works with possible exposure to her fellow teaching, non-teaching staff and the students of the school. 

“The principal of the school has made a prayer to me explaining the situation and keeping in mind it’s gravity, offline classes of the school has been suspended for a week from Monday,” Darrang DC Pranab Kumar Sarmah saind while speaking to Northeast Now 

After Mangaldoi Kendriya Vidyalaya and Ganesh Kunwari Janajati HS School, Darrang JNV has become the third school in the district where offline classes have been suspended within a apan of one week.
