Darrang deputy commissioner, Dilip Kumar Borah has handed over a four-month-old girl child to a couple from Delhi, terming the infant as a rare “Diwali gift” for them.

He also felicitated the couple with as Assamese gamocha on Monday for adopting the infant from the Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) in the district.

The particular adoption agency is run by local NGO, Crystal Vision.

Bora visited the NGOs child care home on Monday, where he spoke of promoting legal adoption in the district and adopt measures to prevent trafficking and illegal adoption.

He also spoke of developing a single integrated site at Mangaldai for such adoption agencies under the parent social welfare department.

“I am happy to visit in the child care home run by Crystal Vision for orphans, abandoned and surrendered children of less than six years of age. The home is being maintained well,” said Bora.

He also congratulated the members of the NGO for their sincere efforts in bringing a significant improvement in the legal adoption scenario in the district during the past two years.

The SAA has conducted the adoption process for seven infants in the district.
