Assam has registered 1,973 new COVID19 positive cases on Tuesday, taking the state’s overall tally to 94,592 while 1,724 other patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Confirming the detection of the new cases, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the new cases have been detected out of 34,307 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“Alert ~ 1973 #COVID cases detected today out of 34307 tests done in last 24 hours,” health minister Sarma tweeted.

The state’s positivity rate stands at 5.75%.

Out of the new cases, Kamrup M has reported 510 cases, Cachar has reported 149 cases, 132 cases have been detected in Jorhat, 121 cases have been detected in Kamrup Rural and Dibrugarh has reported 116 new cases.

Meanwhile, with the release of 1,724 patients, the total number of discharged cases in Assam increased to 74,814 on Tuesday.

“Humble gratitude to doctors, nurses & medical staff for all their kind & selfless efforts,” health minister sarma tweeted.

Assam currently has 19,515 active COVID19 patients.

Eight more positive patients died of COVID19 infections in Assam on Tuesday, taking the state’s death toll to 260.

The deceased are from Kamrup Metro, Nalbari, Baksa, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, and Majuli districts.

The COVID19 victims from Kamrup Metro district have been identified as 70-year-old Usha Das & 48-year-old Aparna Roy, and 21-year-old Nayana Das.

The other victims have been identified as 65-year-old Labanya Bhuyan from Nalbari; 55-year-old Masfil Hussain from Baksa; 40-year-old Ajay Kr Gupta from Karbi Anglong; 46-year-old Jhantu Deb from Golaghat and 55-year-old Bishnu Biswas from Majuli.
