Assam’s COVID-19 woes seems to have risen with single-day cases tally showing an upwards trend. 

On Thursday, Assam logged as many as 844 new COVID-19 cases.

These new cases in Assam have been detected after conducting tests of 35,562 samples. 

Assam’s COVID-19 positivity rate on Thursday stood at 2.37%. 

Out of the new 844 COVID-19 cases, 369 were detected from in and around Guwahati city.

The number of cases detected in Assam on Thursday is 253 more than that was logged on Wednesday. 

On Wednesday, Assam reported 591 cases at a positivity rate of 1.72% 

Moreover, at least two persons lost their lives to the deadly virus is the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the new list of COVID-19 SOPs for the state of Assam will be announced on Friday.  

This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday evening.

Earlier, it was expected that Assam government would announce new SOPs by Thursday evening.  

Issuing of new SOPs has been felt necessary owing to rise in COVID-19 cases and Omicron threat. 

There are several speculations regarding the new SOP.  

While CM Sarma has already clarified that there won’t be any lockdown in the state, there are media reports claiming that there might in a change in the curfew timings. 

Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta had claimed that the state is prepared to tackle the situation as there is a sufficient number of beds in reserve for COVID-19 patients.
