The accused officer, Inspector Bhargav Borbora, who serves as the Officer-in-Charge of Panbazar Police Station, has been suspended with immediate effect.

Guwahati: After the assault by police on a delivery boy at the Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati, Assam, the students of Cotton University have demanded a public apology from the police official.

Speaking to the media, a student from Cotton University stated that the police official, Bhargav Borbora should seek a public apology from the victim.

The students demanded that strict actions apart from the suspension should be taken against the police official.

Another student said that while he has been suspended, it does not bring justice to the victim as a mere suspension cannot be compared with the trauma he had been through.

However, the victim, Gyandeep Hazarika said that he was not willing to go for any further action or file an FIR because the police official was already suspended.

He stated that he too was at fault as he entered a “no-entry point”.

“However, I feel it was not right for the policeman to assault me such brutally”, he stated.

His mother speaking on the issue said that they were unaware that Gyandeep was working part-time to manage the family finances.

She said that they were unaware of the incident and only came to know of it after the video of the assault went viral.

It may be mentioned that after widespread public outrage, Inspector Bhargav Borbora was suspended with immediate effect pending a departmental inquiry.

The decision was announced by Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh who termed the officer’s behaviour as “unacceptable”.
