Sensation prevails following the recovery of a police constableโ€™s body from Dohelapara under Abhayapuri police station in Bongaigaon district on Monday.

The body, which was recovered in the morning hours, has been identified as that of constable Karunakanta Roy.

โ€œKarunakanta Roy was serving as a constable at the North Salmara police outpost and was found unauthorised absent for the last two days from his duty,โ€ said a police source.

Sources claimed it to be a case of murder.

Royโ€™s head was stabbed with sharp weapon and injury marks were visible in several parts of his body, sources said.

The area where from the body was recovered is a foothill of Sonakhuli Pahar and a meeting point of Borghola-Tulungia Road, which is normally a less trodden area.

Another source said the deceased had two wives and maintained them separately.

From the incident site, the investigating police have recovered an iron rod and a rope, which are suspected to be used by the unidentified murderer (s).

While talking to this correspondent, Rudra Kalita, sub-divisional police officer  (SDPO) of North Salmara, said, โ€œInvestigation is going on in full swing and we are hopeful that we will be able to nab the culprits soon.โ€

The police have already completed the process of conducting post-mortem and handed over the body to the family members of the victim.

In another incident in Jorhat district, a police constable, identified as Dibyajyoti Das, died in a road mishap with a Tata Magic on Sunday night.
