Sensation prevails following the recovery of a police constable’s body from Dohelapara under Abhayapuri police station in Bongaigaon district on Monday.
The body, which was recovered in the morning hours, has been identified as that of constable Karunakanta Roy.

“Karunakanta Roy was serving as a constable at the North Salmara police outpost and was found unauthorised absent for the last two days from his duty,” said a police source.
Sources claimed it to be a case of murder.
Roy’s head was stabbed with sharp weapon and injury marks were visible in several parts of his body, sources said.

The area where from the body was recovered is a foothill of Sonakhuli Pahar and a meeting point of Borghola-Tulungia Road, which is normally a less trodden area.
Another source said the deceased had two wives and maintained them separately.
From the incident site, the investigating police have recovered an iron rod and a rope, which are suspected to be used by the unidentified murderer (s).
While talking to this correspondent, Rudra Kalita, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of North Salmara, said, “Investigation is going on in full swing and we are hopeful that we will be able to nab the culprits soon.”
The police have already completed the process of conducting post-mortem and handed over the body to the family members of the victim.
In another incident in Jorhat district, a police constable, identified as Dibyajyoti Das, died in a road mishap with a Tata Magic on Sunday night.
