Guwahati: With the campaigning for the first phase of the Lok Sabha election coming to an end, Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed, has appealed to minority communities in Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency to vote for AIUDF candidate, Aminul Islam.
Sherman Ali who is known for his controversial statements, made the appeal in a social media post.
In the video, the Congress MLA was heard saying that minorities in Nagaon had the opportunity to send a minority representative to the parliament.
He criticised incumbent MP Pradyut Bordoloi stating that he had done nothing for the minority communities in Assam.
He further claimed that despite holding cabinet ministerial ranks for several years, he never raised a voice for minorities.
Sherman Ali further stated that Aminul Islam was a fit candidate for representing the minority community at the parliament.
“He may be fluent in English but he is fit for representing the people’s plight and issues”, he said.
He also added that Aminul Islam had always raised raising voice for the people irrespective of religion.
He further said that Muslims should avoid joining BJP citing that they had been harrassed.
Sherman Ali stated that he is a Congress MLA but the “truth needs to be spoken”.
