Guwahati: Aminul Islam, legislator and candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has accused the Congress and BJP of being communal and using religion for votes.
Speaking to the media, Aminul Islam who has been campaigning for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat claimed that over the past few days, he witnessed how the Congress and BJP had been using communal and religious agendas instead of development issues.
He targeted the Congress and BJP stating that all their leaders do is use religion to fool the voters adding that none of them actually respect their religion.
He further stated that when there are elections, leaders from BJP and Congress would flock to mosques and temples to play the religion card.
“Some would even try to read the namaz or get involved in a puja without having any knowledge of what they are doing”, he added.
Islam further added, “Even if I want Hindu votes but I will not go to a temple and put a tika or do puja just to get Hindu support. I will try to discuss the issues related to their development.”
He added, “If I go to a temple just for a show, it will not lead to development. I will instead talk to them about development.”
“I love the Hindus just as I love others”, he added.
While he labelled the Congress and the BJP as communal, he termed the AIUDF as a “more secular” party in the region.
