Meanwhile, the brother of the first martyr of Assam agitation, Chandra Kanta Talukdar, demanded the arrest of the MLA immediately.

Earlier on the day, Assam Congress served a show-cause notice to party MLA Sherman Ali for making communal remarks and “acting as an agent of the BJP”.

“Allegations are rife within party and even outside that you are acting as an agent of the BJP while being a part of the Congress party,” the show-cause notice read.

“…due to your closeness to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma you are being sponsored to make such comments to cause damage to the Congress specially during election time,” the show-cause notice added.

Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah also sought ‘explanation’ from Sherman Ali for making “communally provocative statements”.
