Congress legislators of Assam on Thursday staged a strong protest against the spiralling price rise of petrol and diesel.

The sky rocketing prices of diesel and petrol has been making news since the inception of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre.

Voicing their protest against the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices, which is an all-time high, the legislators of Congress party set out on a protest march on Thursday morning.

The legislators while shouting slogans against the alleged failure of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government marched to the premises of the Janata Bhawan before the onset of the proceedings of the on-going Assembly session.

Legislators like Rockybul Hussain, Nurul Huda, Abdul Khalek, Nandita Das were seen voicing their protests.

Interacting with the media, the leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, said that the promises of the BJP government are nothing but an ‘electoral jhumla’ and they have failed miserably to meet the expectations of the people.

Another legislator and former Forest Minister of the erstwhile Tarun Gogoi government, Rockybul Hussain said that the commitments of the government are nothing but a trick, deceiving the mass.

Notably, the masses have been hit hard by the series of increase in prices of petrol and diesel at regular intervals over the last four years.
