A day before the declaration of Lok Sabha election results, split wide open in the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).

A delegation of Assam Congress leaders on Wednesday called on All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi and lodged a formal complaint against Bora.

While alleging that APCC president Ripun Bora had taken bribes for ticket distribution in the Lok Sabha election, the delegation demanded a change in the state leadership.

A 13-member delegation of APCC met Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum and lodged a written complaint against Bora.

The delegation was led by APCC vice president and former MP Dwijen Sharma.

Later in the evening, the delegation met Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.

“We have proof to substantiate our claim that he (Bora) took money for allotting Lok Sabha tickets,” said Sharma at the Assam House in New Delhi.

“We also got proof that the APCC president had a back door understanding with AIUDF…we hope that the central high command would intervene and make a change in leadership,” added Sharma.

Although there were no formal tie-ups between Congress and AIUDF in Assam, there were enough indications that Congress put weak candidates against the AIUDF.

Representing Congress, Abu Taher Bepari is fighting against AIUDF chief and Dhubri’s sitting MP Badruddin Ajmal.

The agitated Congress leaders had also reservation against Congress candidate for the prestigious Guwahati Lok Sabha seat, Bobeeta Sharma.

“The political situation in Assam was as such that we could have won 10 seats in the state out of 14 but we feel that we will not get the results as expected,” the delegation said in the memorandum.

“It’s because of certain wrong doings, corrupt practices and mismanagement of APCC president Ripun Bora,” it added.

The delegates included Abdul Hamid, Bolin Kuli, Partha Pratim Bora, Sudip Ghosh among others.
