Assam Congress mulls moving Court to disqualify five party MLAs

GUWAHATI: The Assam unit of the Congress party is mulling to move the Court to disqualify five of its MLAs in the state.

Informing this, Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah said that if the Speaker of the state’s legislative assembly fail to disqualify the five MLAs, it will move the Court.

“We are looking for a decision to come from the Speaker of the assembly. If he refuses to take any action against the five MLAs, we will approach the Court,” Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah told IANS.

The Assam Congress has been demanding disqualification of its five MLAs – Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Sifdeque Ahmed, Shahilanta Das, Basanta Das and Sherman Ali Ahmed.

Notably, this five Congress MLAs in Assam openly supported the BJP or other party candidates in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, the Assam unit of the Congress party appealed to the Speaker of the Assam assembly to disqualify these five legislators.
