The students of Jorhat, who had participated in the Chief Minister’s Gyan Jyoti Scheme function at Kamrup (Metro) from February 15 to 18, have brought laurels to the district by winning the Best District Award.

The group representing Jorhat district was awarded the Best District Award by Assam education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya at the conclusion of the three-day event.

They were accorded a grand welcome on their return to the district on Tuesday.

The students had participated in a number of cultural events and were overall judged to be the best, affirming once again that Jorhat is Assam’s cultural capital.

Officials of the district administration led by additional deputy commissioner, Gitanjali Dutta accorded a warm welcome to the students and the teachers.

The students were taken to Guwahati by West Jorhat Circle Officer Rajiv Gogoi.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Chief Minister’s Gyan Jyoti Scheme at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium at Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati on February 16, 2019.

“Knowledge is power. Knowledge is strength and knowledge is a source of light which makes a person bright and wise,” said chief minister Sonowal while speaking on the occasion.

He also said that Gyan Jyoti Scheme is designed especially to stimulate knowledge base of the students by enabling them to undertake educational tours which have been instrumental to increase the mental horizon of the students.

Sonowal also said, “Education makes a man perfect. It rekindles the human sensibilities and makes them good human beings who in turn can contribute to the formation of a good society.”

Stating that student’s life is a formative year for any human being, Sonowal asked the students present to study at least eight hours in a day and dedicatedly pursue their career in Assam.

He also asked them to inculcate good habits, practice them in life and be disciplined and beautiful.
