Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said the police stations of the state will have to be transformed into centres of faith and credibility.

Sonowal said this while inaugurating the newly-built Bokakhat police station.

The police station was newly constructed under the MOITRI (Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image) scheme.

Sonowal dedicated the new building to the service of the people during a function held at the police station campus at Bokakhat.

The Bokakhat police station was set up during the pre-independence period in 1905.

Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Sonowal said, “Assam Police will have to present a reformed face with Smart Thana, Smart Police and qualitative services.”

He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in DGPs conference in Guwahati in 2015, called for Smart Police concept.

Riding on the appeal of the Prime Minister, transformation of all the police stations of the state under MOITRI has been going to execute the Prime Minister Modi’s smart police concept.

Sonwoal also reiterated that the police forces should imbibe people friendly and responsive approach to instil a sense of security and safety among the people at large.

Chief minister Sonowal also said in the age of science and technology, a cut throat competition has been initiated and in order to survive in this competition, police forces need to empower themselves.

Stating that Bokakhat police station is an important police station which takes care of the safety and security needs of the tourists from the far flung areas to Kaziranga, Sonowal asked the police personnel to embrace smart police concept to help the people in need.

Agriculture minister Atul Bora, director general of police (DGP) Kuladhar Saikia also spoke on the occasion.

MLA Bimal Bora, Assam Police Housing Corporation Limited chairman Anil Kumar Jha and a host of senior police officers were present on the occasion.
