Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma suggested construction of more guests houses at Haflong, the headquarters of Dima Hasao district, to accommodate higher number of tourists coming to the district.

Chief minister Sarma made the suggestion in a review meeting during his visit to Dima Hasao on Monday.

Sarma during his visit took a comprehensive review of various developmental projects being implemented by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in a meeting held with the officials of the council in the conference hall of NCHAC at Haflong on Monday.

The Assam chief minister also took stock of the status of state government welfare schemes & development projects and COVID19 situation of the district during the meeting.

Stating that Dima Hasao district, especially its headquarter Haflong, has tremendous potential to contribute in the development narrative of the state, the chief minister directed the officials to take up steps to ensure maximum utilization of its potential and resources.

He asked them to concentrate on building robust sports infrastructure to provide better opportunities for the emerging sportspersons of the district.

Considering the tourism potential of the district, the Assam chief minister stressed on maintaining the heritage look of the NCHAC building while going for new construction.

“He also suggested to construct more guests houses at Haflong to accommodate higher numbers of tourists coming to the district,” said government release.

Further reviewing the COVID19 pandemic situation in the district, the Assam CM asked the officials to identify the areas that have high positivity rate in the district.

He also directed them to prepare polling booth-wise list of targeted people for vaccination and ensure 100% vaccination coverage at Haflong town on priority basis.

Sarma also instructed the health officials to intensify testing to contain the infection of the virus.

Chief Minister Sarma also reviewed the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission, PMGSY and NFSA in the district during the review meeting.

Assam water resources minister Pijush Hazarika, NCHAC CEM DebolalGorlosa, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang, MLA NanditaGorlosa, all EMs and MACs of NCHAC and senior government officials were also present in the meeting.
