Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday visited Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts to take stock of the preparedness in the two districts to combat COVID19 pandemic.

Sonowal took stock of the measures taken by the two district administrations and the health department to prevent Coronavirus (COVID19) outbreak.

In Kokrajhar, Sonowal held a review meeting with the district administration officials in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office.

Sonowal directed the deputy commissioner to ensure that the people receive essential commodities without any problem during the lockdown period.

The Assam chief minister stressed the need to maintain social distancing to prevent Coronavirus outbreak.

Besides the DC, in Tuesday’s meeting, Assam minister Chandan Brahma, MP Biswajit Bimari and the superintendent of police along with other top officials of the district were present.

Later, addressing the media persons, the chief minister said the people of Assam have responded well to the call of lockdown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break the chain of Coronavirus infection and health department officials have also taken all precautionary measures to prevent the COVID19 outbreak.

He also appreciated the role played by doctors, nurses, technicians, ward boys and Safai Karmis during the crisi period.

Saying that under the leadership of Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and minister of state Pijush Hazarika the health department is working dedicatedly, chief minister Sonowal also highlighted the services rendered by food and civil supplies department, APDCL, transport and police departments.

He urged the citizens to maintain social distancing and stay indoors so that COVID19 outbreak can be prevented.

He said for the poor people the state government has arranged distribution of essential commodities through the district administration at their door steps.

The chief minister also said those who went to Nizamuddin in Delhi from the state must come forward so that the state’s population can be saved from possible COVID19 infection.

He also called on the people to provide information to district administration about persons returning from outside the state.

Later, Sonowal visited the RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajharand took stock of isolation wards for COVID19 patients.

He also discussed the preparedness with the administration of Civil Hospital and doctors who are working hard to prevent the deadly disease.

In Dhubri, chief minister Sonowal visited the Dhubri Civil Hospital and inspected the isolation ward and took stock of the preparedness in the district in view of the COVID19 pandemic.

He landed at Jhagrarpar stadium located on the outskirts of Dhubri town on a helicopter and headed towards the civil hospital and took the stock of the availability facilities at the hospital.

He then proceeded to Dhubri DC office for a discussion with the district administration and all concerned.

In an interaction with the media at the premises of DC office, Dhubri, Sonowal appealed to the people of Assam to honour the plea of Prime Minister Modi to maintain social distancing during the lockdown.

He said, “To fight against COVID19 for the long term and in accordance with the appeal of the Prime Minister of India for social distancing, we should also maintain it sincerely during the 21-days long lockdown, otherwise stern action would be taken against the violators.”
