Assam chief minister Sarbnanda Sonowal on Wednesday directed the Guwahati Development Department (GDD) to prepare a contemporary set of building bye-laws within October 31.
He asked the GDD to remove the flaws in the present bye-laws to develop the real estate sector.

Sonowal also instructed for taking steps for speeding up the process of house construction under affordable housing scheme.
The CM issued the directions on Wednesday in a meeting held on GST at his conference room at Janata Bhawan.
In the meeting which was held for seeking suggestions on GST from different stakeholders and organisations, Sonowal directed the principal secretary to the finance department for publishing a multilingual booklet for sharing information on GST for the benefit of small and medium business entities.

He also emphasised the importance of making the general business community aware about different aspects of GST through awareness programmes.
In order to develop the automobile industry in the state and pass on the benefit to those people engaged in it, the chief minister instructed for taking steps to set up a transport city in the outskirts of Guwahati.
He also directed for resolving all disputed cases from the pre-GST period within the next six months on the basis of VAT.
Representatives from FINER, hotel industry, real estate, tax bar association, automobile association, electric merchant association, garments merchant association, chartered accountant association, Guwahati Tea Warehousing Association, Guwahati Sanitary and Hardware Association and Assam Chambers of Commerce took part in the meeting.
