Sarbananda Sonowal wishes Lata Mangeshkar on her birthday

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended a heartfelt tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on her 90th birthday on Saturday.

Referring to a few lines of the melodious song ‘Godavari Noire’ sung by Mangeshkar, Sonowal praised the ‘Queen of Melody ‘by stating that her love for Assam is described beautifully through her songs.

Sonowal tweeted, “From the banks of Godavari, I pay my respects to Mother Assam. That kingdom is my faraway kingdom but still, I recognize its sweet name. I pay my respects to Mother Assam. This soulful rendition by ‘Queen of Melody’ Shri @mangeshkarlataji truly captures her admiration for Assam. My tributes to the living legend on her birthday.”

Mangeshkar has sung a number of soulful Assamese songs like ‘Jonakore Rati’, ‘Duyo Mukhamukhi’, ‘Kopi Uthe Kiyo Tajmahal’, ‘Moi Uthai Jolodhir’, ‘Rod Puwabor Karone’, ‘Aparupa Aparupa’ etc.

Meanwhile, birthday wishes for Nightingale of India have been overflowing various social media platforms.

Born on September 28, 1929, Mangeshkar has been enthralling audiences over the years with her sweet voice and evergreen songs.

Mangeshkar recently mentioned that ‘Aparupa Aparupa’ was her favourite Assamese song.

She revealed it while extending birthday wishes to eminent singer Bhupen Hazarika on September 8 earlier this year.
