The members of Conscious Citizens’ Forum (CCFU) have submitted a memorandum of Udalguri deputy commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphaliya to check the unabated use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes, leading to artificial scarcity of cylinders in the Udalguri town.

There is rampant use of domestic cylinders in hotels and tea stalls in and around the town.

Secretaries  R.R Sapkota and Milan Das urged

‘We have requested the district administration to launch a crackdown on hotels and tea stalls to curb the misuse of the domestic cylinders in commercial establishments including hotels and tea stalls and take the necessary action as per law,” said Sarat Basumatary, president of CCFU.

The forum also alleged in the memorandum that unlike in other parts of Assam and India, the home delivery of LPG cylinders has been stopped in Udalguri town due to such reasons.

This has led to black marketing of LPG cylinders.

The forum also alleged that most of the hotels and restaurants in the town do not serve safe drinking water to their customers and compel them to buy packed water bottles.

The deputy commissioner meanwhile, directed the civil supply department to tackle the problem and submit a report to him at the earliest.
