Assam: Chirang district authorities readies for Lok Sabha polls

To gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to the 31- Sidli (ST) LAC Segment of 5 – Kokrajhar (ST) HPC, the Chirang Election District organised a series of meetings with various stakeholders involved in the election process and trained the polling personnel.

On Monday, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Chirang, Gautam Talukdar, held a meeting with government officials, representatives of various political parties and local media persons to sensitise them vis-à-vis the model code of conduct and other expenditure-related issues. The meeting was held in the conference hall of the Bodoland Guest House, Chirang.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of major political parties of the district including BJP, BPF and CPI (M). Training has started for the first and second batch of polling personnel. Training will be imparted to the third batch which comprises the presiding officer, and the first, second and third polling officers in the conference hall of the DC’S office, Bongaigaon Oil Refinery, Krishi Vigyan Kendra and District Centre.

During the training sessions, the polling personnel have been given a knowhow about the poll procedures, rules and regulations for conducting election on polling day and use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT).

At the same time, removing of political banners, posters, hoardings and wall paintings from the public places are being carried out by the officials of the MCC cell. For smooth conduct of election in the district, altogether 1,326 polling personnel have been engaged including zonal and sector officers and 29 election cells have been formed including the flying squad, accounting team, static surveillance team, video surveillance team, video viewing team and media certification and monitoring committee. On the polling day, out of a total of 2, 05,872 electors, 1, 02,557 male and 1, 03,315 female voters will cast their votes in the 269 polling stations of the district.
