Assam: Central team arrives at Dhemaji to assess flood damages

Central govt officials had a meeting with heads of the departments and collected first-hand information on damages caused by floods

A high-level inter-ministerial central government team arrived at Assam’s Dhemaji to inspect the flood affected areas of the district and take stock of the post-flood situation.

The central team will inspect the damaged roads, bridges, houses, schools and breached river dykes due to flash floods in the affected areas and will take stock of the post-flood situation.

The team comprised VD Roy, superintending engineer, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Sachin Gautom, executive engineer, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and project officer of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (protocol officer) along with others arrived at Dhemaji on Thursday evening.

The officials had a meeting with heads of the departments at the conference hall of Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner and collected first-hand information regarding the damages caused by floods.

The heads of offices from all line departments including District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Water Resources, PWD, Agriculture, Health and Education were present in the meeting and placed their interim reports on loss and damaged caused by the recurring flood this monsoon.

The officials also submitted the reports on overall post-flood situation of the district to the central team.

The magnitude of flood damages caused by rivers like Siang-Lali, Brahmaputra, Simen, Gainadi Jiiadhal and Na-Nadi in Dhemaji district during the monsoon was assessed by the officials.

The delegation visited flood-ravaged sites in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday.

After visiting the flood affected areas of Dhemaji, the team will proceed towards Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district via Bogibeel Bridge on Friday and assess the flood damages there.

The central government has deputed three inter-ministerial teams to Assam, which has been divided into three teams and assessing post-flood situation in different affected districts.
