A suspected cattle smuggler was severely injured during police firing at Simultapu under Srirampur police station in Kokrajhar district.

The incident of cross-firing took place on Monday evening.

The injured suspected cattle smuggler has been identified as Sahajallal Seikh.

Kokrajhar superintendent of police Prateek Thube on Monday evening said, “A cattle smuggler, identified as Sahajallal Seikh, was injured in cross-firing this evening.”

Thube said based on information regarding cattle smuggling, an operation was carried out at Simultapu under Srirampur police station in Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district where the suspected cattle smuggler opened fire at the police team.

In retaliation, the police party fired back in which the accused was injured in the leg.

The superintendent of police said the accused was involved in various anti-social activities including cattle smuggling across the international border.

He was brought to Kokrajhar Rupnath Brahma Civil hospital and later referred to the Barpeta Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
