Acting on a tip-off, the police on Friday detained a truck loaded with cattle heads at Bagribari in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.
A total of 10 cattle heads were recovered from the vehicle bearing the registration number UP 21 CN 5350.
The cattle were reportedly hidden inside a chamber created within the truck.
Sub-divisional police officer of Parbatjhora, Trinayan Bhuyan said, “Soon after receiving the information, a Naka was placed near Bagribari, the strategic location where we managed to catch hold of the truck.”
The police have detained two individuals in this connection.
They have been identified as Mohammed Hasain and Mohammed Kamar, both residents of Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
As the initial investigation suggests the cattle were loaded at Panjipara of West Bengal and entered Assam through Boxirhat.
Legal action has been initiated and further investigation is on into the matter, said Bhuyan.
