Dibrugarh: A bust of Padma Shri Hanumanbux Kanoi was unveiled at DHSK Commerce College in Assam’s Dibrugarh on Tuesday.

The project was executed under the supervision of CA Jyoti Prasad Kanoi, chairman of the Jyoti Lalita Kanoi Foundation and a member of the Kanoi family, who is also a Governing Body (GB) member nominated by Dibrugarh University.

The project received generous support from Chandra Prakash Kanoi and Santosh Kanoi, grandsons of Padma Shri Hanumanbux Kanoi, through the Kanoi Hanumanbux Radheshyam Charitable Trust, Kolkata, in fond remembrance and in honour of the legacy and contributions of Padma Shri Hanumanbux Kanoi.

Chandra Prakash Kanoi has also contributed a substantial amount to the Tata Trust for cancer treatment in the name of his grandfather, Padma Shri Hanumanbux Kanoi.

Prof. Dr Jiten Hazarika, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, unveiled the bust.

The event was graced by Dr R N Barbora, President of the Governing Body; Dr Joydev Gogoi, Principal of DHSK Commerce College; along with teaching and non-teaching staff, distinguished guests and students.

The ceremony marked a significant moment in commemorating the life, vision and enduring contributions of Padma Shri Hanumanbux Kanoi to education and society.

Rai Saheb Padma Shri Hanumanbux Surajmall Kanoi was a noted philanthropist and tea planter from Dibrugarh, Assam. He played a pioneering role in establishing major educational institutions, including the prestigious DHSK College (Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmall Kanoi College) and its Commerce counterpart, thereby cementing his legacy in regional education.

He was instrumental in founding DHSK College in 1945, which later emerged as a cornerstone of higher education in the region.
