Assam: Business establishments, shops to remain closed on March 23-24 in Cachar

As a preventive measure to contain the spread of coronavirus, the Cachar deputy commissioner has ordered closure of all shops and business establishments (except that of essential commodities) for two days.

In an order issued on Sunday under section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the DC-cum- District Disaster Management Authority, Barnali Sharma said the “outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a potential threat to the human life”.

Sharma said, “measures are being taken by the District Disaster Management Authority to create awareness amongst the general public and to contain the entry/spreading of the virus in the district”.

“All business establishment & shops (except essential commodities) throughout Cachar district will remain closed” from 6 am on March 23, 2020, to 9 pm on March 24, 2020, said the order.

“All the malls including Goldighi Municipal Mall throughout Cachar district will remain closed” with effect from March 23, 2020, until further order, the Cachar DC said in the order.

According to the order “all the weekly markets throughout Cachar district will remain closed” with effect from March 23, 2020, until further order.

The deputy commissioner also ordered to close all the fish/meat markets (including selling in open markets as well as in designated markets) throughout the Cachar district with effect from March 23, 2020, until further order

“Non-compliance of the above directions, action will be taken as per section 51 of Disaster Management Act 2005. This order comes into force with immediate effect,” the order said.
