Assam’s sprint queen Hima Das will be named the sports brand ambassador of Assam.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, on Friday announced her appointment. This honour aims to inspire the budding players of the state to aim big and the young generation to take up sports seriously.
18-year-old Hima on Thursday, created history by winning the first ever IAAF track event medal for India at Tampere in Finland.
With this honour, she will join the rank of actor Priyanka Chopra, who has been the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism since December 2016.
Amul, one of India’s biggest dairy cooperative, based at Anand in the state of Gujarat celebrated her achievement by giving her a perfect ten with the tagline playing on her surname Das pe dus by evening.
Congratulating Hima for bringing laurels to the state by winning the 400m gold at the World Under-20 Championships, Sonowal said the Assamese youngster has achieved a rare feat for which she would be felicitated at a state-level function where she will also be conferred a cash award.
Sonowal hoped Hima would be able “repeat her stupendous success at Asian Games to be held at Jakarta next month and the country’s reigning sprint star would keep making the people of the state and the country proud by her achievements at the world stage.”
Interestingly, Hima was also the brand ambassador of the recent 58th Senior National Inter-State Athletics Championship held in Guwahati, along with P.T. Usha.
