Bodoland Peoplesโ€™ Front (BPF) president, Hagrama Mohilary has surrendered his security cover provided by Assam police.

The former BTC chief surrendered his security cover in protest against the Assam governmentโ€™s move to withdraw the maximum security cover accorded to him and instead, deputing a few police personnel for his protection.

Mohilary in a letter addressed to Anurag Agarwal, IGP, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) said that he was releasing house guard, protective service officer and escort battalion provided by the Assam government from Monday.

โ€œI would like to inform you through this letter that I am releasing all the security personnel assigned for me,โ€ wrote the former BTC chief.

Meanwhile, the BPF through its Facebook page has requested the Assam government to provide maximum security to Mohilary.

The BPF in a Facebook post wrote,โ€ After holding the post of the chief of BTC for 17 years, which has equal status to the rank of a cabinet minister, the security of our party president Srijut Hagrama Mohilary will always be a matter of concern.โ€

The party said that it was the responsibility of the state government to ensure the security of Mohilary.

โ€œHowever, the state government has withdrawn even the minimum required security and the security personnel provided to him are not adequate,โ€ the post said.

โ€œWe request the state government to assess and review the threat status he has as the former chief of BTC and party president and provide him with adequate security,โ€ the post further said.
