Assam-born Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, on Tuesday sought to put the onus on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in case she dies while being lodged in jail in connection with her daughter’s murder. Indrani implied this while arguing before a special CBI court in Mumbai.

A report published in the TIMESNOWNEWS.COM states that the court had earlier rejected Indrani’s bail plea, which she had filed on medical grounds. On Tuesday, Indrani decided to argue for the bail herself. While making her arguments, Indrani asked in the court, “Will CBI take responsibility if I die?”

The report further stated that Indrani is currently lodged at the Byculla Jail in Mumbai. The CBI had earlier told the court that there was no point in granting bail to Indrani on medical grounds as she had nobody in the family who would take care of her outside the jail.

While submitting a hand-written bail plea earlier, Indrani had expressed the apprehension that she could suffer a brain stroke “any time”. She had argued that she wanted to go home and get “immediate access to specialists”.

“Prima facie it appears that her (Indrani’s) daughter Vidhie is in the UK. Indrani and her husband, accused number 4 Peter Mukerjea, have filed a divorce petition before the honourable family court in Mumbai, which means no family members are available to look after her if released on bail,” the CBI had submitted before the court.
