Assam BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami on Monday said the saffron party will come to power in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) by winning more than 21 seats.
Interacting with the media at Tangla in Udalguri district on Monday, Goswami said, “The BJP will field candidates across 40 constituencies in the forthcoming BTC polls scheduled to be held on April 4.”
Rupam Goswami is also the BJP observer of Khalingduar BTC constituency.
“The people under BTC wanted the BJP to contest the polls and honouring the aspirations of the people the party will contest the polls with full vigour and energy by fielding powerful candidates across the constituencies,” he said.
Referring to the rift between BJP and its ally BPF in the council polls where BJP is contesting solo, Goswami said, “We are still in alliance with BPF and AGP at Dispur and Delhi.
He mentioned that continuing their alliance in Delhi and Dispur, the BJP extended support to BPF leader Biswajit Daimari to be elected to the Upper House.
Despite being coalition partners, the BJP, AGP, and BPF had contested the panchayat elections separately.
“In the BTC elections, we will contest solo and are confident of forming the government,” Rupam Goswami said.
When asked about the status of the BJP in Khalingduar BTC constituency where he carried out a survey and collected a ground zero report, Goswami said, “The present Member Council of Legislative Assembly (MCLA) is bound to lose the seat as the BJP candidate will win it by a huge margin.”
He said BJP’s main electoral plank will be the maintenance of peace along with the continuation of the development process in the BTC region, making it even faster and assurance of equal opportunity for all communities.
