The Dibrugarh district magistrate on Tuesday cancelled the arms license of Dibrugarh Municipal Board BJP ward commissioner Sudama Pandey.
Pandey was recently embroiled in a controversy when he tried to meet chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal carrying his licensed pistol at the Dibrugarh Circuit House on August 1.
He was however barred by NSG commandos and other security staff from meeting the chief minister. A loaded .32 bore pistol with six live bullets was found while frisking him. While his firearm was seized by security staff he was allowed to go.
Following the incident, an FIR was filed against Pandey at the Dibrugarh Police Station under section 447/511 of the IPC r/w section 30 of the Arms Act, 1959.
In an order dated August 6, the district magistrate cancelled his license under the Arms Act, 1959 on the basis of a report submitted by the Dibrugarh SP.
Simultaneously, the district magistrate also cancelled the arms license of one Debojit Bora of Boiragimoth area of the town in connection with a separate case. The concerned police station was also directed to seize the .32 bore revolver of Bora.
Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri on Friday said the district administration will be strict while considering applications for arms licenses.
