BJP IT Cell worker from Lakhimpur, Durllav Nath, who is known for controversial posts on social media, was arrested by police on Wednesday.

He was held following a complaint lodged by Tai Ahom Yuva Chatra Parishad for posting defamatory remarks on the Ahom community on social media.

Police went to his residence at Azad in North Lakhimpur on Tuesday night following the complaint.

However, he evaded arrest by escaping from the police.

He was arrested by police on Wednesday from his hideout and brought to North Lakhimpur police station.

Nath recently posted on Facebook about the Ahom community concerning history reading, which created a stir in the social media.

Nath has earned notoriety by posting controversial and inflammatory comments on social media for a long time.

This included posts that incite communal tension in society.

This led to the filing of police complaints by Lakhimpur AASU in July this year.

On July 5 this year, 15 regional units of Lakhimpur AASU lodged complaints against Nath at various police stations in Lakhimpur district for posting communal contents on Facebook.

Before that Lakhimpur AASU also lodged complaints against him for his defamatory posts on AASU president Dipankar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

Nath has also been known for brokering contract works in the name of local MP and other BJP leaders by extracting money in Lakhimpur.
