A five km long women’s marathon was held at Mushalpur in Assam’s Baksa district on Sunday.

The run was organized in a bid to encourage women to participate in sports and spread the message of women empowerment.

The first of its kind marathon in Baksa was held under the aegis of Nijara Foundation, a NGO working for the cause of poor and downtrodden.

The run was held from Mushalpur Higher Seconday School playground to Bathaoupuri Sports Complex.

As many as 50 enthusiasts took part in the run.

Among them, Rezina Parbin of Boko emerged champion followed by Ajita Tirkey and Melani Kujur of Dumuni T.E.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Baksa deputy commissioner, Ranjan Sarma; Baksa superintendent of police, Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar; journalist Julima Deka among others.
