Dry days have been announced for 48 hours starting 6pm today in poll-bound constituencies of Assam.

In order to ensure a smooth Assembly election in Assam, the state government has declared dry days banning sale and consumption of alcohol during all three phases of the ensuing Assam Assembly elections.

The ban on liquor will remain effective for 48 hours starting from 6 pm till 6 pm when the polling concludes on a day.

There will be a total ban on the sale of liquor, distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances at a hotel, public eating house, tavern, shop or any other places within a polling area during the period of 48 hours.

In areas, which are going to polls in the first phase of Assam Assembly elections, the order of the dry day will remain effective from 6 pm on March 25 till 6 pm on March 27, 2021, the polling day.

The order of the dry day in areas going to polls in the second phase of Assam Assembly elections will remain effective from 6 pm on March 30 till 6 pm on April 1, 2021, the polling day.

According to the order, the dry day will remain effective on the day of the counting of votes – May 2, 2021.

The ban on liquor will also remain effective on the day of re-poll.

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has prohibited the possession of any intoxicants by any person or group of persons during the dry days.
