A close contest between BJP and AIUDF is likely to take place in the Dhubri constituency in the ensuing Assam Assembly elections.

BJP candidate Debamoy Sanyal for the Dhubri constituency has filed his nomination paper.

Although he had contested the state assembly elections from the Dhubri constituency in 2011 and 2016 on a BJP ticket, he lost.

During the 2016 Assam Assembly elections, Sanyal got 33648 votes, achieving the third position, while AIUDF candidate Nazrul Houqe got 60933 votes and won the seat by defeating the independent candidate Nazimul Omar, who was got 36847 votes.

Polling in this constituency will take place in the third phase on April 6 and counting will take place on May 2.

March 19 is the last day for filing nominations for the third phase of the Assam Assembly elections.

The scrutiny of papers will be held on March 20 and the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is March 22.

The BJP is contesting in four seats in the Dhubri district namely, Dhubri, Golakganj, Bilasipara East and Bilasipara West constituencies.

The Gauripur seat is likely to be contested by its alliance partner UPPL.

The ruling BJP state government has two legislatures Golakganj and Bilasipara East constituencies.

The AIUDF has three incumbent MLAs in Dhubri, Gauripur and Bilasipara West constituencies.
