The Assam government has announced the names of the 19 recipients of the three awards that it give away – “Asom Baibhav, Asom Sourav and Asom Gourav”.

The names were announced by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday.

This year’s awards will be given away on January 24 next year.

However, the awards for succeeding years will be given away on the occasion of Asom Diwas (December 2).

Industrialist and chairman of the Tata Group – Ratan Tata will be honoured this year with Asom Baibhav.

Asom Baibhav is the highest civilian award which will be given away by the Assam government.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Asom Baibhav award will be given away to Ratan Tata for improving cancer treatment facilities in the state.

The Asom Baibav award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs. Moreover, the recipient can avail medical treatment throughout his life at government expense.

On the other hand, the Asom Sourav award, carries a reward of Rs 4 lakhs and the recipients can avail themselves of medical treatment at government expense up to Rs 3 lakhs each year.

Five personalities have been selected for the Asom Sourav award this year.

The Asom Gourav award carries a cash prize of Rs 3 lakhs and the recipient can avail medical treatment up to Rs 3 lakhs each year.

A total 13 personalities have been selected for the Asom Gourav award this year.
