The Sivasagar district administration has designated Arjuna awardee Bhogeswar Baruah as the brand ambassador of Poshan Abhiyan.

Baruah has been roped in for the mission to make it a mass movement.

The district administration has also drawn up several ambitious programmes to be spearheaded by the former athlete to create awareness on nutrition in the eastern Assam district.

As part of the Rashtriya Poshan Maah, an ethnic cultural programme was organized under the aegis of the district Social Welfare Department on September 28 last at Sivasagar Girls College.

In the programme, deputy commissioner of Sivasagar Dr M S Lakshmi Priya felicitated Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah.

Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner exuded confidence that under the able stewardship of the celebrated athlete, the locals of the district will be benefited with knowledge about nutrition and good health.

She also said it is indeed a privilege and honour to have Baruah as the brand ambassador of the campaign.

The deputy commissioner was also of the view that through the campaign, people will be more aware about the nutrional requirements of children, adolescents, pregnant and lactating mothers.

Speaking on the occasion brand ambassador Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah called upon one and all to be aware about the requirement of proper nutrition.

He also appealed to all to turn it into a mass movement.

Various traditional cultural programmes were showcased at the function to create awareness on nutrition.

An exhibition showcasing indigenous vegetables, fruits, traditional and healthy snacks and delicacies was also held commemorating the occasion.

The district social welfare officer Dipali Devi spoke about the purpose of the programme.

The programme was also attended by district development commissioner Nawab Al Azhar Ali, inspector of schools Abdul Jelil, principal of Sivasagar Girls’ College Buddhin Mishra, president of Mahila Samittee Monika Saikia and district sports officer Sanjay Upadhyaya among others.

The programme was also attended by a sizeable number of teachers and students of Sivasagar Girls’ College, officials of the Health, Education, Social Welfare, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry departments.

Angawadi workers, ASHA volunteers and general public were also present on the occasion.
