Sivasagar deputy commissioner Dr M S Lakshmi Priya attended a programme organized to mark the ‘World Anti Rabies Day’ in the district.

Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, IAS joined as the new deputy commissioner of Sivasagar on Thursday last.

The programme was organized at the auditorium of Sivasagar Girls’ College on Saturday.

The programme was organized jointly by district Veterinary and Animal Husbandry departments under Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP-NHM).

The deputy commissioner while speaking on the occasion stressed on the need to vaccinate against rabies.

She also drew references from her own experiences as a medical practitioner to bring home the deadliness of the disease.

World Anti Rabies Day, observed with the theme ‘Vaccinate to Eliminate’ was organized in the district to create mass awareness about the disease.

The programme was chaired by principal of Sivasagar Girls College Buddhin Mishra.

Dr Udayaditya Rajkonwar, medical officer gave an elaborate presentation on rabies and its pre and post biting prophylaxis.

Dr Khanindra Dev Goswami, former district veterinary officer and Dr Akshyavat Kesari shared their experiences while dealing with the patients battling with the disease.

Dr Hemanta Barua, district surveillance officer also spoke on the occasion.
