The anti-CAB movement, carried out by different organizations, went violent at Porwa Chariali and Mission Chariali area in Tezpur on Monday.
The protestors vandalized many shops at Mission Chariali area under Kochari police outpost in Sonitpur district as the shopkeepers refused to keep their shops closed as a mark of protest against the CAB.

However, sensing danger, all the businessmen at Mission Chariali later downed their shutters.
Meanwhile, some protestors created a sensational situation at Lahkar Uddyug, a petrol depot, located at Porwa Chariali (Nikamul) area and humiliated the proprietor of the establishment.
Later, based on a complaint lodged by the proprietor of the petrol depot, the Asom Jatyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and Asom Jatiytabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) members, who were involved in the vandalism at the oil depot, were arrested by the police.

The arrested activists are Niranjan Nath, Hemanta Nath, and Rajib Das.
On the other hand, under the banner of a newly formed anti-CAB body ‘Sonitpur Nagarik Samaj’ (Sonitpur Dist Citizens’ Forum), people from various walks of life including educationists, artists, media persons, and senior citizens staged a dharna in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Following the sensational situation, the proposed foundation stone laying ceremony of the renovation work of historic Jonaki Cinema in presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been postponed.
On the other hand, Assamese cine actor and Assam Film Development Corporation chairman Jatin Bora, who was camping at Tezpur for attending the CM’s scheduled programme for Monday, had to face protestors’ ire at the Circuit House here.
The protestors, led by the Tezpur unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), gharaoed him at the Circuit House and questioned him on his stand over CAB.
They also shouted slogans against the CAB and asked Bora to oppose the controversial bill.
Moreover, as part of the ongoing statewide protest against the CAB on Monday evening, over two thousand people led by Tezpur AASU and in cooperation with the Sonitpur district AASU took out a torchlight rally throughout the town.
During the protest, the protestors shouted slogans against the state government and the Centre.
