Controversies simply refuse to die down over the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
This time the scene is Hailakandi district of Assam’s Barak Valley.
In a startling revelation, it is found that names of Hindu citizens are incorporated in the ARN of Muslim applicants in the district after the publication of the final draft of NRC.
These anomalies have sparked off quite a sensation in the entire Barak Valley.
The final draft of the NRC was published on July 30 last.
Right from the publication of the final draft, controversies have mired the most important document to prove one’s citizenship.
When each and every genuine Indian citizens of Assam wanted that an error free final draft of NRC will be published, anomalies after anomalies are cropping up with every passing day.
The gross anomaly that has come to light in Hailakandi has raised questions about the authenticity of the entire process of updating the NRC.
Incidents of using legacy data of someone else were witnessed in plenty across the State during the verification process.
But in Hailakandi, names of someone else have been published in place of original applicants in the final draft.
This has raised quite a few eyebrows in the Barak Valley.
A case in point is of Sudarshan village in the district.
One Salimuudin has applied for him and his family under ARN – 101831802107099001846 through the NRC Seva Kendra at Matijuri.
However, in the final draft of NRC, the names of the families of one Anu Kaul and Ranjit Kaul have mysteriously appeared.
However, locals are yet to ascertain the identities of these two individuals whose names have appeared in the final draft of NRC.
On the other hand, Salimuddin and his family are passing their days in utter anxiety and uncertainty.
Salimuddin has been making regular rounds to the Seva Kendra but his pleas seem to have fallen into deaf ears.
After finding no concrete answers from the concerned authority, Salimuddin has approached local organizations for assistance.
Meanwhile, local Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Zahiruddin has alleged that utter callousness and negligence on the part of those involved in the NRC update process has resulted in such serious anomalies.
The KMSS has also demanded proper inquiry into the whole matter.
