Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, the Northeast’s largest auditorium, in Guwahati on December 29, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The auditorium, which has a capacity of 5,000, will host public events and cultural activities in Assam and the surrounding region.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the auditorium’s swift completion reflects Assam’s recent infrastructure growth.

“Presenting to you the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha, the region’s largest auditorium with a capacity of 5,000 seats to be inaugurated by Adarniya @AmitShah ji on 29th December. Built in record time it is named after the icons of Assam’s cultural landscape as a tribute to them,” CM Sarma posted on X.

The auditorium is named in honor of Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha, two pioneers of Assamese culture, recognizing their lasting contributions to the state’s artistic and intellectual heritage.

With modern architecture and advanced facilities, the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha will host major cultural festivals, theatrical performances, national conferences, and other public events.

Officials said the venue is expected to provide a platform for artists, cultural organisations, and institutions in Assam and the wider Northeastern region, supporting cultural activities and events in the state.
